We have all experienced the wonder of genuine artistry in music. That wonder extends to how our brains process the information of music and respond to it, both as performers and listeners. Explore these topics on Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 PM with Libby Allison, Asst. Professor of Music Education at Berklee College of Music.
Using the novels, The Soloist by Mark Salzman and Body and Soul by Frank Conroy, Professor Allison will examine some of the ways in which contemporary literature explores the concepts of music learning. With additional information from psychologist Dan Levitin and physician Oliver Sacks, program participants will also explore how brains process information as people learn to listen to, recognize, perform and create music.
Be prepared for music-making! Previous music training isn't necessary but a sense of humor is absolutely required.
Free tickets for this program may be picked up at the circulation desk beginning on Sunday January 13. For more information about this program or the community wide reading project, call 934-2721 x125.
